Newkirk United Methodist Church caught fire around 4:30am this morning. The fire resulted in a total loss of the church, as is obvious from this picture. Newkirk UMC is in the Oklahoma Conference of the UMC. Please join with me in prayer for Rev. Jim Hollifield and the community of faith in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The sign in front of the church reads, “Every Day Gives You Another Chance.” May God bring new life out of this tragedy.

From 2002 to 2005 I pastored the Baptist church right across the street from UMC Newkirk. I know Jim and the other ministers in the town. I am so very sorry about their loss! They definitely have our prayers!

I grew up in Newkirk and attended the Methodist church with friends from time to time. My father’s funeral was held in that church nearly 20 years ago. Prayers for the congregation and the community.
That church was my Great Grandma’s church. Ruth Gasaway attended that church every week for many years! We attended a few services, dinners, and parties at that church on our many visits to Newkirk. I will miss seeing that beautiful old church on our future visits to Newkirk. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
