Today I am at Boston Ave. United Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK. I am attending the one day training for Disciple Bible Study. I am impressed with the training so far. Sometimes training events like these are very tedious. So far today, the time has passed quickly and it has been helpful. I have a fair amount of familiarity with Disciple, but have not actually gone through the class or taught it. After learning more about it today, I can now more personally say that it does seem to be a very helpful resource for helping folks to be transformed through Bible Study.
I am curious if any of you have experience with Disciple. If so, what has you experience been? How do you feel about Disciple?
Last fall, I team taught a Disciple 1 class and had a very good experience with it. It was both a time of learning biblical knowledge and bonding among people in the class. Generally a very positive response as far as I have experienced.
Andrew – thanks for your thoughts. Did you go through all of Disciple I in the fall? If so, I am curious how you did that, did you teach two weeks at a time? The length of the study seems to be one of the biggest concerns that people have to Disciple.
Kevin – I recognize I didn’t write entirely correctly. I began the class team teaching in the fall, but going into the spring became less involved with the class as I had picked up some other responsibilities in the church. We ended up combining a few of the weeks, but the class did end in the spring although my participation tapered off before that.
On another note – How is Simple Church? I have heard that the Discipleship team at Resurrection read the book together and have been working on major adjustments as a result. What have you thought thus far?
Andrew – Thanks for the clarification.
Simple Church was a great read. I just finished it this weekend. It has made me think a lot and I am planning on writing a review of it for it as soon as possible. I will post it here once I do. The short review is that I would definitely recommend it.
